About the Project

The Model Inter-Institutional Agreement (Model IIA) was originally developed in 2013 by a broad group of research institutions to create a template as a common starting point for IIA negotiations. The project working group reconvened in 2015 to revise the Model IIA and solicit additional users. Over 40 institutions have now participated in the process and over 30 have confirmed their willingness to use the Model IIA as a starting point for negotiations. The project is an open effort and we hope your institution will consider participating if you are not already.

Current Status (updated April 20, 2018)

The Model IIA (last revised 2015) is complete and ready to use!
Please consider using it today.

A new team has now convened to put together a template agreement for jointly-owned, copyrighted software.

See new "Other documents" page for additional useful resources.

For more information about the Model IIA project, please fill out the comment form on this page or contact any of the task force members. Please also contact us if you are interested in joining the task force and participating in future working sessions (conference calls). We are currently working on a template agreement for the management of jointly-owned software.

If you are using the comment form to join the list of Participating Institutions, please include the email address of your director of tech transfer for confirmation purposes. Note that you do not need to be a Participating Institution to use the templates.
